about the projects
Various concepts that I have planned out and executed on my own accord (includes setting, costumes, etc).
on being an angel
This photo series was heavily inspired by Francesca Woodman's "On Being An Angel" series. It was taught to me in a way where I felt such a deep connection to her and the wording itself; I understood her and why she did it. I wanted to use an angelic figure to explore a broken, decaying place. Like Francesca, girls are a sacred, soft thing in a hard dark world. I wanted to make sure the word "angel" came to mind when seeing the model, so I made sure her elbows were bent at certain points and that she always contrasted with the background.
lovecrimes.
A day shoot in a big abandoned building with a small girl. I wanted to juxtapose her apparent and well-maintained beauty with the vast decay of the building. I wanted her to appear soft and sensual, showing that although in a dark place it did not hinder her ability to use it to her advantage and make it what she wanted: all about her and her beauty. The title comes from the Frank Ocean song "lovecrimes", which is what I instinctively thought of as I edited the video I made together, which you can watch here.
mood and impulses
I'm always inspired by Maya's beauty, but I also wanted to experiment with lighting. I bought two different colored bulbs and used an old desk lamp to juxtapose two different colors on a supposedly plain background. I chose a tiled, empty bathroom so the sparseness would compliment the light work.
The idea between "mood and impulse" came to me, of course, impulsively. I felt compelled to show this body of work all at once so I bombarded my personal Instagram at 1 am to the dismay of my followers. I felt such emotion from this images and felt like they displayed a sort of angst when alternated with each other. From personal experience, I know how uncontrollable moods and impulses can be, so I wanted to make a subtle point about it through these images.
I used Pat Mcgrath's Metamorphosis kit in "silver" for the glitter on her face and Anastasia Beverly Hills lipgloss in "Potion" for her lips. Clothing hers but styled by me.
